Navratri Special: How Bengalis celebrate this festival

Durga puja is one of the most important festivals for the Bengalis. The celebrations begin on the fifth day of Navratri with ‘devijagaran’. The avahan and the adivas rituals are performed on the evening of the sixth day.
The main puja begins on saptami, seventh day morning after the navpatrika snan. This ritual is performed for three days. They hold special puja for Devi Chamunda in the last 24minutes of ashtami and first 24minutes of navmi.
Durga puja comes to an end with the puja of ‘aparajit’ on dashmi, the tenth day. Durga idols are immersed in water the next morning.
